Needles for Face points
When needling face points, the two best alternatives are either the tiny 7mm long SooJi Chim needles or the finest (0.16mm) Seirin needle in 15mm length.
Needles for Ear Acupuncture and Auricular Medicine
For needling in the ear there are three primary alternatives. For temporary needling, using fine 15mm(1/2 inch) needles will work well. When a longer duration of stimulation is desired both Press Needles and Semi-permanent (ASP) needles are viable. Press needles are the more traditional method, however the site must be carefully cleaned to avoid infection, and the needle should not be left in for an extended period of time without frequent inspection. Semi-permanent (ASP) needles are inserted using a small plunger and leave a tiny needle imbedded in the point, which will fall out in 3-14 days. The plunger has a magnet which the patient can use to stimulate the needle.
Pebbles
Pebbles, also referred to as Acu-Pellets, are used to stimulate body acupuncture and ear points when a needle is not desired. They do not actually penetrate the skin but provide contstant pressure to the point. Gold is used to stimulate and add energy to a point. Silver is used to sedate and relax a point.
You can choose standard generic pebbles, or for added treatment effect use the ionized Magrain pebbles (Highest quality tape backing and easiest to apply) or the Tsubo Magnetic Pellets.
For patients with a sensitivity to gold and silver, Vaccaria press seeds can be used as an alternative. These seeds have natural irritant properties.
