MED Servi-Systems was founded in 1980 by Carol and Doris Sweetnam as MD AcuDesigns & Supplies. Fresh from having returned from lengthy acupuncture studies in Asia & Europe, they learned that finding supplies in North America was a challenge. So they took it upon themselves to begin importing acupuncture needles from Japan to use in their own practice and to sell to colleagues. And thus it began. MED now sells thousands of different acupuncture products from countries all over the world.

MED Servi-Systems played an important role in the expansion of Acupuncture and Auricular Medicine in North America during the 1980's. Seeing a need for instruction in North America about Acupuncture and Auricular Medicine, M.E.D. Servi-Systems brought in lecturers from around the world to help introduce more Canadians and Americans to these disciplines. Dr. Paul Nogier the founder of Auricular Medicine was one of the earliest speakers. MED continues to offer workshops and seminars in areas that are under served by regular educational channels.

In January 2006, MED Servi-Systems merged with Eastern Currents Distributing Ltd. Eastern Currents continues to expand its product base to better serve practitioners, always carrying the best possible products from the world's best manufacturers. For instance, Eastern Currents carries seven different brands of acupuncture needles from five different countries, giving you the maximum choice and flexibility.

In addition to needles, products now include many books and educational videos, quality stimulators, pointfinders and lasers, magnetic accessories, charts, models and hundreds of other products.

Eastern Currents has grown as Acupuncture has grown in North America, and we continue to provide health practitioners with quality products and educational opportunities as well excellent service.
